    Description

    3x3cms
Beautiful lightweight and confortable open hoop handmade earrings from the famous Tuareg silversmiths.
Tuareg people are from the sub Sahara region of West Africa.
I bought this particular pair of earrings from Malian Touaregs. But living in Niger, Mali, Senegal I have seen plenty of their jewelry and appreciated their craftmanship.
They are extraordinary silversmiths and produce some of the most unique silver jewelry with very few tools. The design is often very simple and sleak. Every jewel is a message and contains sometimes forgotten symbols.
Silver is used instead of gold because Tuareg women have a superstitious fear of gold and will not wear it.
Those hoop earrings are a modern adaptation of much heavier earrings worn by women.
The hoop ends by a little knob inlaid with ebony.
The hoops are decorated with engraved geometric patterns.
