These earrings are made by Salee in his small workshop in Niamey, Niger.  I have been working with Salee for over 15 years.
The Tuareg are a traditionally nomadic people who have lived throughout the Sahara for centuries but due to droughts and economic conditions many have had to give up this lifestyle and settle in villages and towns surrounding the Sahara.  Their tradition of working with silver (for which they are famous) still thrives and continues to support a great many Tuareg families  Tuareg jewelry is distinguished by its clean lines and simplicity of form, they also consider that objects worn for protection and well being should be beautiful in order to be effective.
A little about me - Everything for sale is handpicked my me.  I travel to Africa 2 - 3 times a year to buy
the best quality items available in the marketplace.  This has been my primary occupation for more then 25 years now.  I sell to galleries and stores across the country and also exhibit twice yearly at NYNOW.  I really enjoy my job, I have friendships which date to my first trips, and I get to travel and interact with people who appreciate the culture and workmanship that goes into each item.
I consider myself to have a very fortunate lifestyle.
