    Description

    Traditional Chinese pottery tureen decorated with multiple cranes encased in circles. Cranes are an important motif in Chinese mythology. There are various myths involving cranes, and in Chinese mythology cranes are generally symbolically connected with the idea of immortality. Circular shapes also symbolize continuation; so the design in itself seems to represent continuous immortality. Such an item would have likely been a gift for a respected elder.
