The General Assembley of the U.N. declared 2008 the "International Year of Planet Earth" , The Royal Australian Mint has recognised the importance of this year and adopted the theme for its 2008 Year Sets.
The Year Set designs were developed in partnership with Geoscience Australia – a peak body for IPYE activities in Australia. In the this set, the reverse of the 20 cent piece features powerful images of tsunami, floods, plate movement and salinity reminding us of the impact geological issues have on our survival.
The Royal Australian Mint for the first time has released a two coin proof set with the standard aluminum bronze Mob of Roos dollar coin and the special proof 20 cent for the International Year of Planet Earth. The set come in a colourful pack and is an affordable way to complete your commemorative coin collection.
